Bold By Necessity

It’s been an emotional set of weeks, so this will be brief. It may seem a little late, but the movement is still going.

I want to take a minute to praise the hard work done by Black Lives Matter, to push everyone to a more equitable country. It is also admirable the work being done by young, Gen Z activists who have pushed and organized. And though we still face all too many obstacles on a path that secures humanity for everyone, especially Black Americans, Indigenous and LGBTQIA People, I see that even in the face of tyranny, people rallying for the cause, moving the needle of justice a little closer.

It is a stark reminder that we can all do better, be braver, be bolder.

We can defund Police Departments in favor of community programs.

We can repeal laws that target People of Color.

We can demand equity in housing, health and education for People of Color and LGBTQIA people.

We can abolish prisons and the incarceration system.

We can live in a more free and equitable world, we have to demand it and fight for it.

If you can’t march (1), and can’t donate, see if you can call your federal and state representatives and senators.

Please consider a donation to Black Lives Matter.

The cause I have been championing is Drk Beauty’s Healing campaign, which provides free therapy to women of color affected by Covid-19. Women of color face barriers to accessing mental health, and especially mental health that is informed on racial trauma. Please help us close the gap.

(1) Autoimmune and joint issues mean that marching in a large crowd is out of the question for me at the moment.
