In Absence is OUT NOW

My new short story collection, In Absence, is out now! It's a little bit of a doozy of a collection and includes a frame story centered on my personal journey through grief. It's an odd, frightening, funny, and hopeful work that intertwines a number of different motif.

Thank you for all your support! I'm really excited to share my new work with you.

Blurb: In Absence is the fresh and frightening short story collection by Laura

Diaz de Arce. Enjoy tales of shape-shifting nature beasts, an affectionate

giant squid, an ancient Greek drama on the subway, a Sinatra-loving were-goat,

take a trip to a museum in Hell, and more. What brings together this eclectic work that spans genres, tone, and voice is the exploration of the varying shades of grief. Like MONSTROSITY: Tales of Transformation, readers are sure to find works that pull at their heartstrings while still delivering on gore and body horror.

Books No Longer Available on Kindle Unlimited (But it's a good thing)

MONSTROSITY: Tales of Transformation and Mask of the Nobleman are no longer available on Kindle Unlimited because it will soon be available on all other digital platforms.

Some of you may have heard that during Thanksgiving weekend last year, my publisher’s (NextChapter) kindle publishing account was suddenly closed without notice. Amazon alleged that the publisher had another kdp account (which was against their terms of service) and that that account had been associated with an account that had been closed for content violations.

Confusing right?

After days of appeals, e-mails, and and no real proof of the charges, Amazon reinstated the account.

This is becoming an increasingly common practice at Amazon, wherein its algorithm regularly cancels accounts with no recourse or clear directive on how to appeal decisions. The people it largely affects are smaller creators.

As a result, the publisher, with feedback from their authors, has reevaluated its relationship with Amazon. While we still will have books available for purchase on Kindle, they will also be publishing their catalog on other digital platforms (such as nook). Amazon does not allow books published on other digital platforms to be available on Kindle Unlimited, and that platform will be removed.

On the one hand, I get it sucks for people who use Kindle Unlimited, but I will also say that the pay rate for KU was extraordinarily low and accounted for our lowest payouts. I generally agree with the decision since it allows us to get into other markets.

There will still be promos and other options available, AND this also may allow our books to be available in your public library’s digital collection*!

As always, you can find a full list of places each book is published on my website: Mask of the Nobleman. MONSTROSITY.

  • Most public libraries allow library card holders the opportunity to request books to their catalog. Ask your local librarian about how to request books!
